We are a National Team Training Center

Megan Lueders

I am a recent graduate of Sacred Hearts Academy in Honolulu, Hawaii, where I attended school since senior kindergarten. My most significant accomplishment was getting chosen to be a member of the L.I.F.E. (living in faith experience) team. This gave me the opportunity to create small Christian communities throughout the school and become a role model for all younger students.

I have been doing club gymnastics since I was 10 years old. From 2005 thru 2007, I competed as a USAG level 10 gymnast on the optional team at Hawaiian Island Twisters. In May of 2007 I was offered and accepted admission to California State University, Sacramento (CSUS) where I will be continuing my gymnastics career as a NCAA gymnast. Go Hornets!

My most important achievement in my gymnastics career has been making the 2004 National Team as a level 9 gymnast. This same season I placed 2nd on beam with a 9.525 and 5th on floor with a 9.475 at the Regional Championships. At age 16 I started coaching the pre-school and beginning gymnasts at Hawaiian Island Twisters. Working with these children has been gratifying and I hope to continue my coaching after college.

My plan for the future is to major in Physical Therapy. Due to minor injuries of my lower back and elbow, I have gone through therapy to strengthen the muscles around the injured areas. My experience working with these specialists inspired me to want to do the same for other athletes. After receiving a Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy, I hope to work with young athletes and continue my gymnastics coaching career part-time. This degree will also give me the option of becoming a personal trainer.

Gymnastics has been a very important part of my life for the past eight years. I have made many life-long friendships and have had the enjoyment of being part of an outstanding team. Going to a private school and working out 20+ hours a week, I have learned to manage my time wisely and gained knowledge of what is important to me in life. Gymnastics has made me a better person by teaching me discipline, respect for others, and how to be a team player. The most important lesson I have learned is to persevere through injuries and disappointments, and to never give up. With hard work and determination, you can do anything you set your mind to.

I would like to personally thank the coaches who have gotten me this far. Jamey Gossett has been my coach from the beginning of my competitive gymnastics career. He is the best spotter ever known and has been with me during the best and worst times of my life. He has encouraged me to be strong and inspired me to never quit. I have gained trust in his words, and his confidence in my ability has made me the gymnast I am today. Joe Rapp has also been a major influence in my life. His skill of seeing technical problems and giving corrections is astonishing. He has the capability of talking you through your fears and overcoming your mind games. His coaching and sense of humor has made my gymnastics career unforgettable. Tacia Van Vleet has also made a huge impact on my life in the short time that I have known her. Her personality and positive attitude has taught me to become a better leader for our team.

As my club gymnastics career ends, and my NCAA gymnastics career approaches, I would like to thank all my teammates for their support and friendship throughout the years.

Anyone who would like to send Megan an email, please send it to webmaster@hawaiianislandtwisters.com
and I will forward it to her.
