TOPs (Talent Opportunity Program) is a USA gymnastics program for gymnasts ages 7-11 and their coaches. Now in its eleventh year, TOPs has been successfully integrated into the Junior Olympic Program at many gyms.

The gymnasts are evaluated on specific physical abilities during the months of June and July. The dates are set by each regional TOP manager in conjunction with the National Elite Program Chair. Qualifying athletes are invited to participate in the National TOP test in October at a designated gym on the mainland. They are evaluated on the same physical abilities tests along with some basic gymnastics skills. From this group approximately 60 gymnasts are selected to attend a National TOP training camp in December, all expenses paid. A second team is also invited to the National training camp during December for a cost of about $500.

In the past, Hawaii has had gymnasts qualify for the National TOPs testing every year and those who have attended the National TOPs training camp have found it to be an invaluable experience. TOPs supplements the Junior Olympics program by motivating gymnasts to reach higher fitness levels, improve their basic skill training and obtain added dance experience. The program also provides coaches with the opportunity to work with the national staff.
